Khenpo Gawang Rinpoche Refuge Vow Ceremony
- Sunday, January 29, 2012
Please contact PKMC (information
page) if you are considering this vow.
I take Refuge in the Buddha. I take Refuge
in the Dharma. I take Refuge in the Sangha.
This is the first step on the path to being
a Buddhist and is the first vow of Buddhism. You are accepting
the Buddha as your teacher. The Dharma is your path of
awakening. The Sangha are your spiritual friends on the
journey.
By taking the Refuge Vow you are committing
yourself to the Buddhist path of taming your mind and
awakening your heart. A benefit of taking the Refuge Vow
is that the practices and activities you engage in as
a Buddhist have more merit and virtue.
Receiving the Refuge Vow from a fully qualified
teacher, and especially if they are your teacher, is a
great opportunity and very powerful as you are making
a genuine dharmic connection between the two of you.
Kyabjé
Drubwang Pema Norbu Rinpoche, entered parinirvana

was the 11th incarnation of the Palyul lineage of
the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism. He was a
master of Dzogchen and one of the few remaining
masters who had received all of his training in
Tibet. He fled Tibet in 1959. His Holiness held
the position of the head of Nyingma tradition of
Tibetan Buddhism.
